Bad mom moment

Daniel woke up on Friday and said he had tummy ache, but we didn’t take him seriously as he still wolfed down his breakfast and had no temperature.  Needless to say I took him to school.  Needless to say I got a call at lunchtime.  Needless to say I had to get my Mom to fetch him and hubby to leave work early and go collect him from Granny.  Needless to say the Homeopath was not available.  I was really, really upset that I couldn’t fetch him, but duty called.  (Note to self: working for yourself gives you less flexibility NOT more)

We decided that we were going to monitor his temp and then decide what to do.  Initially it hovered around the 38 – 38.5 mark, but eventually peaked at 39.5 yesterday avie.  He had no other symptoms, except a tummy ache which we gave him Buscopan for and that helped.

So, there I was, thinking, what is the doctor going to say to me.  The child’s temperature is high, but he is still eating and drinking, so he won’t dehydrate and his symptoms are under control.

And then we had a night from hell last night, I was tempted to stick him in a cold bath at 04h00 this morning, but we finally managed to get the temp down to a reasonable level.  First thing this morning I called and managed to get an appointment.  By now he had a runny nose and so did Isabel, with Mignon still holding out.

I get to the doctor and what does he say:

Manage the temp

If it gets any worse, here’s a script for antibiotic

Make sure he stays hydrated.

It could just be a childhood disease that’s developing, so wait and see.

Thanks.  So, now we wait and see and treat the symptoms.  Bugger and crap.  It really sucks to be a Mom sometimes, it breaks my heart when my little boy is so sick.

  1. Shame, poor Daniel! Poor you. It really sucks when your children are ill. Maybe he has a worse version of the tummy bug you had last week? Hope he feels better soon and that the girls don’t get whatever it is too. Sterkte!

  2. Kieran had similar symptoms a few weeks ago, extreme tummy cramps and fever, eventually it disappeared. I felt so helpless though. Its sucks!

  3. ahh, I feel for you, its really sux when little ones are sick and the doctors always seem to say just ride it out. So frustrating. hope he feels better soon x

  4. I don’t see where you were a bad mom at all! I feel for you – it sucks when you feel so helpless and can’t fix it when your kids feel so crap.

Hope little Daniel is feeling a bit better today 🙂

  5. Horrible feeling when the kids are not well, but I don’t see any “bad Mom” moments here!
