Cape Town quickie

Minds out the gutter people, we took too long getting everyone settled and got to chatting, so I’m just doing a quick pop-in.

If you live in Cape Town you’ll be very familiar with this sight.  The Athlone cooling towers.  They are being demolished on 22 August and, although they really need to go, the N2 will just not be the same. I remember, as a child, looking at them whenver we used to venture to that side of the world and I found them fascinating.

(ps, I took this pic with my cellphone today, whilst driving, so if they look a bit wonky, that’s why.  Yes, I’m the crazy cow in the Mommy car swerving across the road.)

This is a hectic week, I really need to squeeze about 7 days’ work into the 4.  But I’ll be really grateful when weekend rolls on by!

  1. my grandad use to come up with all sorts of funny stories about the towers when I was a kid and we believed everyone of them. 🙂

  2. Funny you should post this today.
I arrived at work this morning only to find the big pin oak I usually park my car under GONE! I felt like crying seeing the big empty space next to our offices.

  3. It really does feel like part of the landscape will be missing when they come down. Good luck with getting all your work done. I have a similar concertina work week.

  4. I’m going to take some pics of them this weekend before they come down. I can’t remember them ever not being there.
Good luck with getting all your work done this week..x

  5. It’s horrible when the landscape changes – feels like part of you is missing!
Good luck with fitting in all the work 🙂

  6. The changes are sad! I know that the towers are becoming dangerous but the need to remove everything “old” is a little disconcerting. xx

  7. 🙁 My brother and I used to make up stories about those towers. I used to really believe that they were giant milk bottles. My brother once told me that if you die they would throw your body in it.

  8. Cool, thanks for the pic. Been meaning to head out there before they go up in smoke…
If I don’t make it, at least I’ll have your wonky pic 🙂
