I have just been asked for ideas for CSR projects we can start in the office. The idea is to donate things that we already have (mostly women and moms in the office) and maybe some of our time, but we don’t have a budget per se.
Any suggestions??

The Woodstock Police Station needs babies and children’s clothes, toys, activities, furniture, posters, etc. to equip a new Wendy House they’ve just been donated where children can go when their parents are arrested or when they’ve been removed from their homes by police. Give them a call or I can give you the name of the woman who is coordinating donations in Obs.
Our chruch does this – it’s not much, but it’s better than nothing:
They chose a children’s home nearby, then got the ages and birthdays of each child.
Divided the children amongst those interested and now each child recieves a home baked birthday cake on his/her birthday – relevant to his/her age and interests.
It is such a simple thing, and means that you might bake one or two cake’s a year, but to children who have never had their own birthday cakes, it’s something special.
Good luck and let us know what you end doing!
I love EEVD’s idea, as long as everyone in the group is equally reliable.
There’s a children’s home in Durbanville or Nazereth house in town.
love the cake idea

This is a national database of organisations, and you can sort by type of organisation, or by cause.
People in your organisation can volunteer at an organisation of your choice. Or you can choose to start an employee giving scheme, where employees donate a certain amount say R20 or R50 per month to a common cause. The best part is that it is tax free, so instead of giving government money, you give it to your favourite cause. Phone Charities Aid Foundation Southern Africa and ask them to help you to do this. 011-726-1148. And nope, I don’t work for them. I do know that’s the scheme a number of companies, including ABSA, First Rand and Telkom use for parts of their social responsibility programmes.
Love the cake idea, the is also The House of Hope in Durbanville and Fisantekraal is always needing help.
Thank you SO much for this information, I have always wondered!
