Gratitude Day 8

A little bit of everything today:

1.  The girls have a little game they play at night. It’s called the sleep-avoidance game. It entails insisting that they need to make a poo just as we put their night nappies on. It goes something like this:

Sit on toilet

Drop one

Get off

Flush

Call Mom to wipe bum

Get back on toilet

Mom walks away

Drop another one

Get off

Flush

Call Mom again to wipe bum

Get back on toilet

Mom walks away to get more wine

Drop another one

Get off

Flush

Call Mom

Mom yells

My favourite nights are the ones where they are each in a bathroom and we get to run from pillar to post. Hubby pours the wine. I am very grateful for this.

2.  When it comes to making decisions about my children I haven’t really ever battled, but when it comes to work stuff I’m a real wuss. It took me ages, but I finally made a decision to walk away from something recently that I embarked on that was just not going to end well. There is only so much crap I can put up with. I was really worried about the way forward and what my worth is as a potential employee, and by definition, as a person. Because we often define our worth in terms of our jobs because we are (sometimes!) paid a salary. I had to force myself to stop doing that in the last few weeks and bloody hell it’s hard. But it’s cathartic. I’m really grateful I did.

3.  Lastly, I am really grateful that we had a sunny day today. The kids and I went off to visit Granny and Granddad and we took a walk to feed the ducks. We had a great time!

Here they are with Granny and sitting on the park bench.  (Mignon left, Isabel right)

No, I couldn’t get them all to look at the camera, but that’s no surprise by now 🙂

  1. hahahaha I LOVE your games bit – you just cannot make this stuff up. Sorry, it’s not funny. But from here where I sit, nodding, agreeing, wishing I drank wine too, it’s kinda funny 🙂 mwa

  2. It’s funny this time of night. Not when it’s happening and all I want to do is collapse on the couch 🙂

  3. Re #2 It’s all going to come together!

Love the pic on the bench even though they aren’t looking at the camera. It captures that moment of them being enthralled with what they are looking at.

  4. Love the sleep avoidance game – can just picture it! Good for you for making such a scary decision about work – I’m sure it’s the best move for you. Cool pics of the children feeding the ducks. You’re really getting into a groove with the gratitude – yay for you!

  5. That is not a cool sleep avoidance game. I would also yell. But I don’t have the wine backup, so screaming could work for me!

Good for you on the job! Feel the weight lifting from your shoulders?

And cute pics – at least they’re all 3 looking in the same general direction. Away from you 🙂 So cute!

  6. good for you on the work decision! 🙂

sleep avoidance game sounds like loads of fun for everyone except mum and dad 🙂

  7. Not to brag or anything… 🙂 One good thing about being sick is that Thomas is on his best behaviour generally. He starts shutting down at 19h00 and asks me to go to bed by latest 19h30 and we lay and read a story and he’s asleep within seconds (and so am I). Will spare a thought for you around bedtime from now on and shoot lots of prayers your way!

  8. Hey! You didn’t fall for that. You don’t have to be that polite… I’m not dying you know… LOL. You can tell me to shove my 19h00 bedtime with child where the sun don’t shine!!

  9. I didn’t think you were dying, because you’ll be around for a very long time to come 🙂

    I was being politely jealous…

    How are you doing?

  10. Girl, I don’t know how you do it with twins + 1 ! Why is it that kids seem to be able to poo on demand (theirs) but not when we tell them to?
I love your pics! Sounds like you are way much better off without a job that makes you doubt yourself in any way! Ps: Everyone I have told about your blog thinks its fantastic, hope you win the blog awards on this one!
