Scary or not?

I came across this article about Maclaren prams and American children loosing their fingertips due to the pram’s opening mechanism.

We have a twin Maclaren pram which was the cause of lots of giggles between hubby and I as SIL imported one when she had her first child 6 years ago and we thought it was total overkill.  And here we buy one..

My first instinct was “dumb Americans”.  My second instint was OMG if it was one of my children there would have been hell to pay.

What do you think?

  1. We could just as easily close a finger in a door and they don’t come with warning instructions ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. That’s outrageous that McLaren don’t do the same in all countries. Are only American children in need of protection? Probably because Americans would sue them into bankruptcy while Britain and other countries don’t sue like that so much. Which one do you have the Twin Techno or the Twin Triumph (I just love these marketing names)?

  3. Also read it, a pity that they don’t do the safety stuff for all the countries, as I think it could be a marketing plus, but in the end I agree, kids could loose fingers with almost any stroller or car door. Only the Americans get’s to sue other people when they were being stupid themselves!

  4. I think it’s definitely a case of dumb Yanks and dumb parents! I think it’s only common sense to not have your child around when you’re folding/unfolding the pram. I have a Maclaren pram and am very happy with it. I take the pram out the boot, open it up, engage the brakes and take Thomas out of his car seat and into the pram. When we get into the car, I take T out of the pram, put him in his car seat, fold the pram and put it in the boot. Thomas is never anywhere near the folding/unfolding action. You can’t really have a child standing about while you’re folding the pram – they’ll run off into traffic and what not. Do we really need a manual to tell us how to keep our kids safe by just using common sense?

  5. That’s what I was thinking as well – can you imagine having the girls run around a parking lot with me trying to get the pram sorted? NOT!

  6. That’s why we kept sniggering at my SIL, because 6 years ago you couldn’t find them here ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. But then I don’t fold/unfold a pram with my child still in it, now do I?

I suppose accidents do happen, no matter what.
