Weekend stories

Before I talk about the weekend, just a quick share about my In-laws and my darling husband’s family in comparison to mine.  My family thrives on conflict, we never miss a good fight.  Husband’s family avoid avoid avoid.  Everything is always fine.  THERE IS NO PROBLEM.  EVER.

So, knowing this I sometimes really have to bite my tongue.  Recently I heard that my Brother-in-law who lives in Mpumalanga had some puppies and knowing my In-laws were going to visit them we were told we were welcome to have a puppy and that it would be sent down when the In-laws come home.  To cut a long story short, they are back and there is no puppy.  I tried making contact whilst they were away and they would just change the subject etc.  I got the message, but am a little hurt.  I mean, just say ” we don’t have the dog, we gave it away’.  I don’t mind, I’m a big girl, but all this avoiding shit freaks me out.

So now, with the In-laws back from visiting Brother-in-Law, all I want to ask is WHAT HAPPENED TO THE DAMN DOG.  But I can’t.  God forbid I make them uncomfortable.  FFS.

Anyhoo.  I am moving along.  But we really need to get Daniel a puppy.

We went off to a kiddy party yesterday morning.  There was wine and it was great, we had a ball.  Oh, and the kids had fun too 🙂

Here is Daniel and Isabel with the birthday girl.

I had to grab a couple of things from the shops late yesterday and took the girls with me.  The trip was, well, interesting to say the least.  I let them each have their own trolley, even though I really only needed mushrooms, but much fun was had by all.  Ok, we had fun, there were some other grumpy assholes in the shop…

Here they are after we managed to pass the eggs without doing any damage:

And off they go into the sunset:

We had a late afternoon braai today with some great friends and got everyone cleaned up and in their PJ’s.  I then managed to get them all to sit with me on the couch and have a cuddle.  And it was one of those rare moments of sheer bliss and contentment that just hits you out of the blue.  I really love my life, I am so, so lucky.

May everyone have a blessed week!

  1. Well at some point you are going to have to have this discussion before it explodes.Something was “promised” and not delivered. Just saying – my family are also the evaders while my wife’s family is the short fused variety, but we have to take care never to let that get into our home and family. Just have a civil discussion before this thing festers. And buy a puppy yourself – at least then you can read up on a good breed that is child-friendly too.

  2. I’m going to have to let this one go, my BIL is a crafty bastard who will turn it around and make me the drama-queen. Not worth it. But any other time I would have said something. Just hope I’m over it by Christmas..

  3. Yes, it would not be in the spirit of Christmas to smack your BIL with half a frosted fruit loaf! Hehehe just make sure it is one of those moist ones so you do not injure him! Make finding the puppy a family project and turn this thing into something memorable.

  4. Your sunset pic made me smile!
I think all shops should have that size trolley for the kids, so much easier for the moms!
Know what you mean about asking. It would be burning me to know why. But then again, there is a little puppy here in Cape Town that is just right for you guys.

  5. Sjoe, I hear you, sister, on the “don’t talk about” stuff. With my inlaws it’s not about conflict but the whole list of things that were not suitable for discussion. Well, I strode in where angels usually fear to tread and now they actually talk about illness – even the previous no-no’s such as depression and infertility. Anyway, sounds like Cams has got a puppy for Daniel. Love the photos, especially the girls going off into the sunset with their trolleys. SO glad you’re feeling blessed!

  6. I’m the no-conflict type, so I’d just keep quiet like nothing happened. But it would still piss me right off!
Hope Cams offer of a puppy works out for you guys 🙂 Buying a new one can get pricey!

Love the pics! So cute 🙂 I also breathe a huge sigh of relief when Connor makes it past the eggs without kncoking the entire display down! (We also have quite a few assholes at our PnP. Miserable old farts).

  7. I normally don’t keep my mouth shut, but I know what gasps of horror there will be from afar and things are already a little tense..
I will bug Cams about that puppy..

  8. I’m trying to rescue a puppy, but it’s not going well, husband being full of crap about it.

  9. I hate that “don’t talk about it” thing!!
I love the photos, ignore the gumpy a@holes and do this with them often, they look so happy.
I was lucky enough to have one of those cuddle moments too, great feeling hey?! xx

  10. I know exactly what you mean about those rare moments of peace and love. They give me strength for the rest of it.
