Mom has run!

Hello all from a dry Jozi, just popping quickly to catch up!

Everyone said how cold it was here, but it’s not so bad at all.  Why is it that people from Jozi think they work harder and get colder here than in Cape Town?? Drama queens!  🙂

I got to spend time with my friend and her family last night that I haven’t been able to have an uninterrupted conversation with in at least 4 years.  What a pleasure!  Teeny weeny little headache due to much red wine consumed altitude difference, but hey.

Meetings this morning and then I’m going on the GAUTRAIN back to the airport!!!  Go ahead, shake your heads, I don’t care, I’m very excited!  R100 for a ticket, can you believe??

Hope everyone has a fabulous day, we are off to the soccer tonight so I’ll pop in tomorrow morning.  It’s really hard not spending time here with my ‘other’ family 🙂

Mom on the run

psssst.  I am leaving my family.  OK, only for the night tomorrow night, but still.  One whole night and two whole days away from my little ones.  The good news is that I only found out yesterday, so I haven’t been able to stress about the logistics of it for ages.  Instead, I lay awake last night and figured it out.  Mostly.

Because us Moms don’t just have to work out the logistics of the work stuff, we also have to work out the logistics of the home stuff.  But don’t get me started.

Daniel is going off to my Mom tomorrow night and my In-Laws on Thursday night as I arrive back in Cape Town late on Thursday and then go straight to the soccer.  Hubby will have the girls by himself for the night and will only have to worry about feeding them on Wednesday night, survive the actual night and mobilising them on Thursday morning.  Which he is quite capable of doing.  But still.

Gulp.

Smug Mom klapped

I am living proof that being smug will earn you a fat smack against the head.  Here’s why:

Firstly:

Suki and I had a play-date on Friday and were talking about sleeping and routine and I (quite smugly) stated how important routine is and that’s why MY twins slept through from 8 weeks.  Conveniently forgetting of course that between 4 – 18 months they hardly slept.  And true’s Bob, on Friday night Mignon was awake from midnight to 3h30.  Why?  Mamma bed, Mamma bed! And then of course Daniel wet his bed twice in that same time and would not go back to sleep.  Hubby and I were running laps in the passage.  The rest of the weekend was a sleep deprived blur.

Secondly:

When I collected Mignon and Isabel today their teacher was singing their praises and saying how she has never come across better behaved twins and they get along so well and they express themselves so well and they never throw tantrums.  I, in my infinite wisdom wholeheartedly agreed, nodded sagely and left feeling very impressed.

Until we hit the house.  And then all bets were off.  We fought and cajoled and begged and pleaded for 3 hours tonight.  Mignon didn’t want to bath or eat or stand or walk and it was a screaming fit of note.  On the toilet, off the toilet, flushed about 20 times and I had to fisha brand new roll of toilet-paper out the toilet and throw away.

Isabel just dug her heels in and would NOT get off my lap of out of my arms.  Whenever I would to put her down she would cling to me like a monkey, legs around my waist.

Poor Daniel did what boys do when girls get a little hysterical, he withdrew completely.

So, if you EVER catch me being smug again, please quote this post? Thanks.

As promised

Recently I did this post about the sheet we bought that Daniel sleeps on that we just chuck in the washing machine and tumble dryer if he has a ‘glips’ at night.

Here is the link to Gumtree, best thing we bought in ages!

Off to go and collect all the kids, raining cats and dogs in Cape Town, definitely making a fire tonight!

Quick pop-in

How amazing is the ‘gees’ in Cape Town today??!!  Our office is on the 13th Floor (yes, the 13th floor) of a building in the CBD, and we can hear the Vuvu’s all the way up here!

Here’s a couple of pics of Green Point Main Road:

Amazing hey?

Weekend pic share

I had my usual battle to get all our kids in one place for a pic and all looking at the camera, to no avail this weekend!  Even Cazpi couldn’t get them all in one place when she came over yesterday to play with her new camera!

Here is Mignon at a friend’s house yesterday morning with pink wings and a pink car:

Here are the kids at my In-Laws this avie.  Check the zany pants my Mom bought them.  I’m now taking pics of them all looking away.  Only way they are in one place.  They managed to trash their house in about 2 minutes flat.

I also tried to get the girls to give each other a hug and kiss.  They did, but were too quick every time, this was my best effort!!

Daniel is complaining about a sore tummy and had a 38 fever earlier today.  I am just hoping and praying that he will beat whatever bug he’s fighting, their school holiday camp starts tomorrow and I really, really need to go to work!!  ANyone have any thoughts?

Hope everyone has a fabulous week!

To my Dad on Father’s Day

Dear Dad,

Let’s face it, you haven’t had it easy.  Wife, 2 daughters, lots of PMS and hormones and boyfriends and tears.  You deserve a medal.  Or a cellar of really good wine.

But seriously, thanks for being my Dad.

Thanks for still speaking to me after I effed up 2 years at Varsity and then promptly left.

Thanks for being passionate about life.

Thanks for teaching us about values and the value of life.

Thanks for always, always setting an example.

Thanks for being just a (relatively speaking) normal person.

Thanks for being humble and generous.

Thanks for being consistent.

Thanks for always making us feel safe and important to you, even though you weren’t always physically there.

Thank you for loving our children, they love you right back!

And lastly, thank you for always, always going out of your way to help us.

I love you so much, please stick around for many more years (and the hormones and boyfriends and tears of our children Wink)

Twitter addiction

Don’t think I’ll manage to keep this to 140 characters 🙂

I am completely and utterly addicted to Twitter.  And loving every moment of it.  In fact, I am currently in sensitive negotiations with my Mom to get her new phone when she upgrades so I can get a BB and tweet.  A lot.

For example, I just took a peek quickly and saw that Serbia won Germany.  I knew that old Lolly Jackson was murdered before any of the news networks had it (with apologies to News24).  I read that Dr Frederick van Zyl Slabbert had died and was the first one to know in our office.

I have read more news in the last few months than I have in my whole life (thanks News24!) and have laughed more than I have in ages.  It is very entertaining to watch the twitter stream when something big is happening or even just when the Apprentice is on.  And there is always someone to chat to.

Oh, and I met Cazpi there too, courtesy of Camilla.

win/win!!  Now I just need to remember to talk to Hubby every now and again 🙂

Brave old me

I had another whole day on my own with our 3 kids.  And I actually enjoyed it thoroughly, they were in high spirits the entire day and were quite gentle with me.  Bless them.  There are large piles of washing in various stages of drying all over the house and there are dust bunnies everywhere, but hey, our lady is hopefully coming tomorrow.  At least the beds were made and the dishes done.

I also took the girls out without nappies today for the first time.  OK, so it was only down the road to Granny’s house, but still.  They were so proud of themselves they were beaming!  And no accidents either!  Let’s see how tomorrow goes…

My folks were waiting for guests to arrive that hadn’t met the twins yet that were running very late, so they were trying to stall me.  My Mom produced a video clip on her phone she had made of the kids that had them all in hysterics.  You forget how much they love looking at themselves.

Here’s a pic of them looking at themselves (that does sound a bit weird hey?):

I also realised again today how shit literally rolls downhill.

My Dad was getting annoyed because he had to wait for their guests, he then snapped at Daniel for hanging on the car doors, I then got irritated with my Dad for snapping at Daniel and proceeded to snap at Daniel for playing with buttons in the car.  And then had to take a step back and think about why I was really pissed off.

Last day with them tomorrow before their school holiday camp starts next week and I have to get back to work.  I’m really going to miss them!  (Check, by 09h00 tomorrow morning I’ll probably be ready to hang them out to dry!)

Good morning

Right now I should be

putting on the washing machine

folding up dry washing

putting another load in the tumble dryer

tidying up the kitchen

making beds

getting the children dressed

yell at them for leaving their half-eaten apples on the floor

But I am busy chewing on my morning coffee and hanging around here instead.  (I effed up something with the machine so now there is ground coffee everywhere)  And the children are running amok.

Well, off I am to face this day…  Today and tomorrow it’s just the 4 of us and on Monday the children start holiday camp at school.  Right now I’m sad about that, but in about 30 minutes I’ll be very happy about it!

Quick question:

I am fresh out of books, please can someone suggest something nice to read?  I have just finished all the Stieg Larssons, so need something just as good.  I’m suffering from post-good-book-depression!
