Losing the plot

I had a particularly blonde day today and I’m not even remotely blonde.  One of those days when you maybe should just not have left the house.

Example:  I bought these really cute fairy pictures recently and have been meaning to put them up (READ: bugging hubby to put them up).  So tonight, in-between 3 nagging children and trying to get supper done, we were trying to figure out the measurements of putting these 4 little pictures up, but with bigger gaps on the sides, otherwise they are too far apart.  I just couldn’t get my head around it. *hangs head in shame*

Whilst I was trying to figure this out Mignon disappeared and we finally found her in our bathroom, entire bathroom wet and toilet mat in the toilet.  She got her second little time-out for this.  Why she is so obsessed with a damn toilet is beyond me.

Then we had to dash back to the kitchen to rescue Isabel from the kitchen counter.  Little shit drags the chairs over and climb on the high counters and unpacks the fruit bowl trying to “sample”.  If she isn’t climbing on the kitchen counter it’s the bathroom counter and pouring anything and everything into the sink.  Drives me nuts.

And Daniel was in a prize bad mood as well.  I really had to bite my tongue on several occasions.  I think he was just totally overtired, because absolutely everything was a drama and drove him to tears.  My poor boy.

BUT we all got hugs and kisses before they went off to bed, so then your heart just melts and you miss them already.

I often think of something Johhny Depp said in Finding Neverland: “Young boys should never be sent to bed… they always wake up a day older.”

I remember thinking at the time that it was quite a profound thing to say and I often remind myself that I need to enjoy my children every single day as the next day they are a day older and you cannot recapture the day that has passed..

  1. 3 words: oi,oi,oi. And : normal, normal, normal. Mine also likes to “sample” the fruit bowl. We have about ten apples with little bites in them…..

  2. Wow, what a quote! And I loved the movie as well – think I should get it now!
So, did you get to put the pictures up in the end?
What an evening. I hope you print some of these blogs out to remember the stories one day!

  3. Love the quote and it’s become a bit of a ritual here at work for people to stop at my desk and check out my ‘sampled’ fruit I bring to work. People are always stopping at my desk to see what my ‘worm’ did to my fruit. And of course once the ‘worm’ has sampled the fruit he doesn’t want to eat it and I cannot pack it for lunch – he wants a new one or “fixed” as Frog says.

  4. I think this time of year leaves everyone, including children, frazzled.
I seem to do nothing but dish out punishment and make threats of no Christmas!
Hope the pictures did get hung, have a few to do myself in the holidays. xx

  5. Love the quote! Too true 🙂 I always wondered how you could keep them small 🙂 Don’t think I could handle the consequences of a sleep-deprived kid though!

I’m dealing with whining Tristan, and playful Connor! Neither want to sleep at night, and are just moaning constantly. End of year blues?

    Good luck!
