Weekend stories

Phew, what a weekend!

Friday night was School Camp out night at Nitida, but we only went for the supper bit with some of Daniel’s school friends.  It was a great evening, we just had to retrieve Isabel off the slide repeatedly where she was climbing up from the bottom and Mignon on the other side of the field where she kept walking off to.  We also had to keep Daniel from jumping the q on the slippy slide.  Great fun though!

Swimming lessons yesterday morning, rushed around after that to get some shopping done.  Was driving through the winelands with loud music and clapping hands and singing to keep him awake!

Then we went to a school friend’s house for a birthday supper late afternoon.  Her inlaws from Israel were there, as well as 2 other couples we know from school, also with kids, that she is really good friends with.  I almost felt like I was being interviewed to join some club, it was a bit weird…  I don’t do popularity contests very well.

Daniel was awake between 01h00 and 04h00 this morning and then on the go again at 06h00, so you can only imagine what a bundle of joy I was today.

Off to Playzone this morning with another friend, her little girl and Daniel and left hubby home with the girls to cook lunch for all the grandparents (after my sister tried to make feel guilty for not inviting her, but that’s a whoooole other story)

Then I dragged them all off to the Woollies sale this avie, but I don’t know what I was thinking, what a diabolical trip that was.  Daniel was impossible and I have no idea why, he has had SO much love and attention this weekend, I really got to spend a lot of time with him for a change.

I had a really baaad husband weekend.  Don’t get me wrong, I am married to a wonderful, wonderful guy, and I admire that he is as solid as a rock.  But FFS, sometimes I want to stick some dynamite up his backside and tell him to wake up.  He doesn’t GET that kids need basic stuff like SOCKS.  More about that later…

Hope everyone has a great week!

2 up/2 down

Up:

1.  Went to Nitida tonight for Daniel’s school camp-out night to join them for supper and it was really great to spend time outside with friends and family on such a great day.  Fingers crossed for a sleep in tomorrow morning!
2.  Was invited to a really cool lunch work group this week as an “Industry expert” with fantastic people

Down:

1. I’m having a bad Husband week.  We have never had problems communicating, but silly miscommunications are slipping through the cracks at the moment that really irritate me.  I also see a money argument in my near future.
2.  Nedbank is working on my nerves.  They messed up really badly on internet banking and now I know it is going to be many arguments to fix it.  Bugger

Chaos

They changed our access to the internet at work, so I can’t just “pop in” and visit/check my blog during the day.  It has also been chaos at work and I have been busy until all hours, so it is a bit crazy right now.

Nothing much has changed, except for a new boss.  I still hate traffic, Daniel is still potty training, Mignon is still walking (fast) and Isabel not.

It is their birthday next week and I’m having a Fairy party on Sat – any suggestions?

I miss catching up during the day, but promise to visit at night!

Mignon is walking!

She started taking little steps in the last week or so and on Saturday avie it was like the light went on and SHE GOT IT and is walking.  Isabel is constantly cheering her on and clapping hands and Daniel tries to pull her over.  Ah the joys 🙂

Overdue weight loss update

I have been baaaad the last 2 weeks and skipped my weigh-in last week (period = PMS = chocolate) as I knew I hadn’t lost anything.

The weekend was a total write-off (hubby’s bday, Sunday lunch etc etc etc), but I still managed to lose 500g in the last 2 weeks.

So, a total of 4.6 kgs down, 17.4kgs to go.  It is now almost 3 weeks to go to the girls’ 1st bday party, so I just have to be good.

The most important thing I have realized I want to achieve to actually be able to wear my wedding ring as my fingers as just too fat right now.  I’m also hoping that my feet will shrink back to my old size pre-twin and extra 30 kgs as I have absolutely no shoes for the winter!

Happy thoughts

It really feels like there is an air of doom and gloom around me at the moment and people all around me are going through really hectic stuff.  I’m beginning to also feel like there is some catastrophe lying in wait for me around the corner.

I had coffee with an ex boss of mine today and she gave me the proverbial kick up the backside – thanks Adie!

So, I have decided to list some of the things I have to be grateful for

1.  3 healthy children (mostly)
2.  a wonderful husband
3.  a job (yes, even though I complain)
4.  a fantastic support structure
5.  my parents and inlaws are all still alive, healthy and very much part of their grandchildrens’ lives
6.  a house I can call my own
7.  reliable transport
8. being able to be who I am

I used to keep a Gratitude Journal and write down 5 things every night that I had to be grateful for.  Once you have run through the normal stuff listed above it gets really hard to find initially to find 5 things to be grateful for everyday, but I had such a mind shift it was amazing.  I think I must try this again.

I’m also finally reading eat pray love and am LOVING it, maybe that’s why I’m thinking about all this existential stuff.  Anyway, hope everyone has a great day and feel free to add things to be grateful for!

Midnight mayhem ctnd

In reference to my previous post, I woke up at 04h00 this morning with the distinct feeling that I am being watched and when I finally managed to focus, I realised Daniel was standing next to my side of the bed.

All he said was:
Mamma, Milo.

🙂

Midnight mayhem

I am a deep sleeper and Etienne is a light sleeper.  It shames me to say that, regardless of my 3 sprogs, I still sleep like a log.  I do however wake up when there is something wrong.  Call it Mother’s instinct.

But this evening Etienne tells me that at 3am this morning he heard a noise and found Daniel in the kitchen with both his sippy cups (1 for Milo, 1 for juice, yes, every night).  He had carried one of his little chairs to the counter and was trying to open the fridge so he could get a drink.

He wakes up regularly in the middle of the night (apparently) asking for Milo, which really is slightly warmed soy milk with 1/2 tsp milo.  He always gets diluted juice, because there is no way Etienne is going to warm milk in the middle of the night.  He never complains though, shame, I think he is just thirsty.  And yes, I usually sleep through this event.

Sweet little man.  That is one thing I can say for Montessori, they teach them SO WELL to do things for themselves and around the house.

Potty training hell

We were in Tygervalley on Saturday morning and tried to do a Pick ‘n Pay shop.  Eventually Daniel got a bit out of hand and I offered to take him and the girls to Jimmy’s.

Getting there was ok as I got him to hold onto the pram for the walk.  Being there is was chaos though as mister was holding on to his little “man” and I had to leave the girls in their pram and dash off to the toilet with him where he proceeded to tell me he wants to pee outside.  There is no outside in Jimmy’s.  In fact, there is not a tree or a piece of grass around for a looong way.  So, like all mothers that have read books, I then give him the option between the big toilet and the small toilet.  That was met with a resounding No, he doesn’t need to pee.

By now I am worried about the girls that I dumped outside, so we do a mad dash back and put them in the small play area.  Daniel then hobbled around holding on to “you know what” whilst I defended the girls against a nasty little boy who, when I told him off, stuck his tongue out at me.

And then, just as I lose visual contact with Daniel a that crucial 30 second he comes back from somewhere with very wet pants.  I couldn’t go and find the puddle as I had 2 11 month old babies attached to me at the time and trying to get D into dry pants.

By then I could see the other mommies looking at my chaos without trying to look too hard and the sneaky little boy trying to knock over the girls like skittles whilst sticking his fingers in their eyes.

So what did I do?  I called Darling Hubby and suggested he got there ASAP.  Which he did, bless him.

Lesson:  Don’t offer to look after 3 kids under the age of 3 if anyone is potty training…

My boss turned 40 on Valentine’s Day and had an 80’s party.  Hubby and I dressed Goth as we went through that “phase” in the 80’s anyway.  What fun to get all dressed up and dance for a change and not think about running down the passage to put dummies in mouths.  Just for a few hours.
