My day so far…

1.  Discovery:

I have to have a colonoscopy and umbilical hernia repair done.  Discovery wants me to pay in R2 000 for the pleasure of having the colonoscopy done in hospital, otherwise the doctor has to do it in his rooms.  I then called the doctor, he doesn’t even do the procedure in his rooms.  It’s not like I WANT to go for a colonoscopy.

We are very good customers of Discovery, the only time we have asked them for money is when I was in hospital last year having twins.  We don’t even have MSA, so we pay for everything cash.

What do I do now???

2.  Sister-in-law

My niece is turning 6 tomorrow and we weren’t invited to a party.  Hubby took Daniel to the inlaws yesterday afternoon so I could spend some time with the girls and ran into his brother and his family there.  My SIL then said that she was having a game drive for the niece’s birthday tomorrow afternoon and would D like come, please could I SMS to let her know whether we’ll be there.

This pissed me off big time as she clearly only invited Daniel as an afterthought and doesn’t have the decency to call me.  Whilst I was on the phone to Discovery now she left a snotty message on my cell saying I have to call her.

Arrgghh, can’t be asked to deal with her craziness today as well! I feel like acting like a brat, but know it will just bite me in the ass if I do.

  1. Sorry to say this, but your SIL sounds like a real Byatch.
Can’t believe you have a Medical Aid where you still have to pay the bills yourself. That’s why I don’t have one yet, I’ve had some in the past, but nothing suits me or my family’s needs properly. And all these add-on benifits (eg. movie tickets, free gym) are bull-shait.

  2. Medical aids are the worst. It’s always a fight, and that after the huge fees we pay each month.

Your SIL sounds like a cow. So if your hubby hadn’t accidentally bumped into them Daniel would never have been invited?

  3. Stick to your guns, don’t phone!!
I too am sick and tired of always trying to keep everyone happy and doing the “right” thing. Right for who!!! Never for me thats for sure. I have decided to put my foot down, I am now going to do what makes me happy. xx

  4. Stick your guns baby and blast silly SIL into hell! She sounds like a cow and do you really want your son to go there and be the afterthought? How will she treat him?> Will he get her kid’s leftovers or did she actually provide for him? To hell with her I say. I’m so tired of playing happy families with the outlaws…

  5. Your SIL is rude!! does Daniel know he has been invited? If not, I would decline and say please in future can she give u more notice.

With regards to the medical aid, I would ask to speak to a more senior person and ask why you have to pay in for the procedure if it is being done in hospital.

  6. I’m also on Discovery – and find them to be absolute STARS at wriggling out of paying your medical bills. Think I will blog about that soon.

  7. I was horrified as they have been better than most others up until now! That’s probably because we don’t ask for anything…

  8. Good luck, and can’t believe people are like that second one this week I read about on the blogs! crazy.

Medical aids I am only on a hospital plan.

  9. So am I! I refuse to pay MSA as it forces us to plan what medicines we buy. You pay for it in the end anyway.

  10. Hi there, as luck may have it, my bosses wife had a colonoscopy last month, she is on the one of the top Discovery packages, and she also had to pay the R2 000 co-payment. Just seems like something Discovery does, since my Mom is on a different medical aid and had a colonoscopy last year, and she didnt have to make any co-payment.

  11. Thanks for the heads-up. I spoke to the doc yesterday avie and he suggested I go to the Discovery offices and I think I might just on the way home today!

  12. I asked my mom, and she said they actually took the 2000 co payment out of her medical savings. She only realised that when she looked through her medical aid statements. So it looks like you pay the copayment no matter which medical aid you are on. 🙁
