The school saga

There has been a saga raging at Daniel’s school for a while now, mostly fuelled by some uhm let’s just say ‘interesting’ people.

I have refrained from saying anything specific here because I just really didn’t want to give them the time of day.  But recently there have been articles in the Rapport that have walked a very thin line of biased reporting.  (this is besides not obtaining a statement from the school prior to it going to print).

Parents have been bullied and lied to by these so-called ‘activists’ and the ‘reporter’ in question. I get so enraged at these people for the unfairness of it all, but mostly of my powerlessness of making a stand and making a difference.  To me it smacks of people with an agenda that is more about themselves than actually about their children as they claim it to be.

Then, this morning, a friend sent me this link.  Go and have a read if you wish, but I really couldn’t have said it any better as I am probably too emotional about the whole thing.

  1. Goodness I wish Zoe can go to a school in such lovely surroundings. I just do not understand people. If you are not happy there, pack up and go and leave the school to provide a service to people who want their children to go there. I think there may be a hatchet or two or three coming out here that has nothing to do with the spraying of the crops. Good luck!

  2. These people seem to forget that every town in the wine-country are also technically being sprayed every year due to the surrounding farms being sprayed. Take Paarl for instance – some farms are actually inside the town! Are we now going to sue all wine farms near towns? As for Rapport – nothing more than a tabloid these days anyway and Beeld and Burger are much the same sadly.

  3. Oh dear Tania… I never saw the article, but it sounds to me like someone who has got their own agenda…

  4. WTF? What’s wrong with these people? They’ve removed their kids already, so what’s the issue? Do they have medical proof that their child is now seriously ill due to the spraying? And if so, why are the other kids ok?

Have to agree with inspiration – keeping your kids there is enough of a ‘statement’!

  5. The important question is: “Do you feel comfortable leaving your child there?” If the answer is “YES”, then this whole issue becomes a non-issue.

  6. It never ceases to amaze me how the media will stop at nothing to cause sensationalism in order to sell more newspapers. There has been absolutely no proof, despite so much research, that their is any harm to our kids and yet the mere thought of this is enough to cause a mountain out of a molehill. My son loves the school,we dont plan on removing him anytime soon and to top it all his brother is going to join him there next year. Put that in your pipe and smoke it Galileo Group!

  7. The media serves primarily themselves and their own agenda.
I’m sure that they would not take notice of what is actually being published in blogs.
They unfortunately have a lot to do with the perceptions of the public in general (influenced by sensationalism)!
    Thanks for posting.
It is indeed necessary to make a statement to reveal the truth somehow.
    Enjoy the week
