Gratitude Day 2 and Mom stories

Hubby had to leave early this morning, so I got to feed and dress the Brady bunch and cart them off to school.  Which went fine until my darling son decided not to go to school in his PJ’s.

Yes, you read correctly.  He declared early on that he was not getting dressed and he knows that that means that he goes to school in his PJ’s.  (which in real life has only ever happened once, mostly we just threaten) Of course, just as I had loaded bags on the girls, brushed hair, pulled myself together, door open and keys in hand, mister decides to get dressed.  So it was another 10 minutes before we left.

I have to shamefully and woefully admit that I felt like a 4yr old this morning and just wanted to dig my own heels in.  Sometimes it’s really painful and overrated to be the adult.  It certainly wasn’t my best performance today.

Now that I have that off my chest, herewith my 3 things to be grateful for today:

1.  The kids were all asleep and the kitchen clean by 19h55 tonight.  All we had left to do was pack lunches for tomorrow.  Woop woop!  Amazing how much you can get done with an extra 30 minutes!

2.  A really great friend popped in unannounced earlier tonight and it was such a great surprise.  We had a quick catch-up, just enough to tide us over until we get together soon!  Do you ever visit friends on the spur of the moment or do you book way in advance?

3.  My husband’s unfailing sense of humor.  He has an amazing ability to diffuse potentially difficult situations, especially with the kids, by making light of them.  I tend to take things very personally whereas he just shrugs and moves on.  I am so grateful for that and am sure that our children will learn this from him!

Hope everyone has a fabulous Friday!

  1. Yeah being adult is totally overrated! I so know that feeling.

Decided to join you with your gratitudes 😉

  2. Mostly visits are arrange due to hectic schedules, but occassionally if I am driving past and the car is in and I have time then I stop for a quick visit.

    Enjoy your weekend.

  3. That’s a great ability your hubby has!! Love the whole grattitude month thing!! Great idea, and boy we have so much to be grateful for!!

  4. Your list sounds great!!! 🙂 I would love to pop in when I can, some friends are ok with it, others, well, it requires formal gold-gilted invites hehe 😛

  5. Kids changing minds at the last minute is a very typical thing in this house too. Very frustrating!

I feel like a 2 year old most days. I think I always morph into the kid that is giving me the most grief on a specific day!

Visiting friends is a rare thing, probably because we don’t have any – LOL. But if I want to go visit my friend, I always phone in advance to check she’s in the country! I wouldn’t drop in unannounced if I saw her car in the driveway. She’s still single – who knows what she might be up to :0

  6. My begeerte is altyd om sommer net in te hop en te kuier, MAAR met ‘n paar keer se slegte gebeure bel ek nou maar en maak seker ek is welkom 🙂

  7. I want to be the kind of person who loves people to pop in whenever but I’m not : ( Too much of a control freak; I think some of my friends would be shocked by the chaos of my house sometimes.

  8. I’m sure you have a lot more friends than you think, just looking at the unch of us here 🙂

  9. I think your idea of chaos and my idea of chaos is not the same. For example: are all the beds in your house ALWAYS made? 🙂

  10. I love spur of the moment visits but always sms or phone first before I do it to make sure people are at home and ok with a visit.
