Forgiveness

Just some random thoughts.

I was re-reading my post of this morning and thought Jeez, people must think I’m a bitch.  I was very upset and worried as I have to leave my children and go to work and try not to worry.  We try to do our best to make sure that they are well looked after, but sometimes things go wrong.  Maybe I’m just a control freak.  But I will go and chat to the poor nanny this avie.

A lot of blogging today about husbands and I was going to do a long post, but will keep it brief:
I love him, he is great, but he is farking useless at practical stuff like broken toilets, door handles and  cars.  I deal with that stuff, and sometimes I just want him to realise that it actually takes time out my days as well.

I have also realised today that I need to forgive myself for being a working mom and not be so hard on the people that are around me that help me.

Humpty Dumpty

The domestic comes in at 07h00 in the mornings and normally starts with the dishes.  I go into the girls’ room, give them their bottles and she then takes over and does their nappies whilst we try to get done to go to school and work.

This morning, same routine, except, from our bedroom I hear big DOEF and the crying, and I just knew on the spot Mignon had fallen off the changing table.  So I dashed through to the room and there was Mignon, back up on the changing table and crying her little heart out.

The domestic had turned around to get something and not had her hand on Mignon, so she took a dive.

I then picked her up and of course she vomited her bottle up all over me, which was fine, as long as she’s ok.  No cuts, no bruises, no swelling, no further vomiting, no drowsiness and she seemed fine.

I have now phoned home 3 times already and the nanny says she is fine, playing nicely with her sister.

OMG.  I’m not generally a paranoid mother, but I know how dangerous those kinds of falls are for children, so I’m extra careful around the changing station.  Silly woman.

Coffee table fun

Mignon was going mad after supper tonight as she was desperately trying to climb on the coffee table.  Isabel was hot on her heels of course.  They are copying their brother who mostly stays off the coffee table these days as it has a prime view of the TV. Mostly.

She is turning into a real little actress, I took about 10 pics and she is smiling for the camera in each one, Isabel isn’t really that interested.

I also tried getting a shot of the three of them together, but this was the closest I got:

In the car this avie Daniel asked if we were going to “koala fish” and after much interpreting I realised he was talking about Willowbridge.  He got an animal book for his birthday that daddy has read to him 2 nights in a row and he can name every single animal in the book – even foreign ones like bats etc that he doesn’t normally come across.  Clever boy!

Out-laws

My inlaws are old.  I’m talking respectively 78 and 74.  Generally they are absolutely amazing for their age.  They still travel often and have a very active social live.

BUT, they can a real pain in the ass sometimes.

I am married to the laatlammetjie son (last of 3), and for some reason I am the designated travel agent – it might also be that we live the closest to them and see them very often.  Tonight I had quite a lot to achieve work wise and of course received a phone call to book flights to Jozi to go and visit middle son in Lydenburg.  I said no problem, let me get the kids to bed and I’ll log on and look at prices.

So, I check prices on the “cheapie” airlines and call.  Line busy.  Wait 5 minutes and call. Line busy.  Call on the cell phone.  Mother-in-law answers and gives me a loooong story.  By now I’m annoyed as I running out of minutes on my cell and have a lot to do, so I call back the landline.

Mango is the cheapest.  Oh no, they don’t like Mango, the seats are too small etc etc etc.  Ok, next cheapest by R200 is Kulula.  Ho-hum, ok, they’ll book it.  Like it’s MY fault they are more expensive WTF??  Halfway through making the booking I hear MIL in the background, then they have an extended conversation about the additional R200.  Ok, no, they’ll rather fly Mango and save the R200.

Obviously I had closed the Mango page so I have to start all over again.  Grrrr.  Eventually we got it booked and they are now flying out and will be gone for about a month.

They are still living in the same house they have been for the last 30 odd years and I worry about them as I don’t know how they manage to maintain it.  My MIL has only recently given in and now gets a cleaning service in once a month.  I think they get very lonely and we try to have at least one meal a week with them (at our house, too much chaos with the rugrats at theirs, stairs!!) and they often go and collect Daniel from school.

Generally speaking I shouldn’t complain, some of my friends have terrible inlaws, but they can be hard work sometimes 🙂

Nap time

It would seem that our dear son has decided that he no longer needs to sleep in the afternoons.  He didn’t sleep over the weekend and we thought that the nanny might be able to get him down this avie, but no luck.

On the upside, after much whining because he wanted Daddy to read, he fell asleep in my arms when I was reading Sleeping Beauty to him, literally on page 3.  It is so special when they fall asleep in your arms, I almost didn’t want to get up 🙂

What is a good age to stop afternoon naps?

My turn

I am now also the lucky winner of the bug everyone in the house has had, so I am feeling a little under the weather.

It also doesn’t help that I woke up yesterday morning with terrible pains around my navel due to a small hernia I have because of carrying the girls to 38 weeks and having them weigh 3.5 kgs each.  (On top of this they were born in March, so I retained A LOT of water due to the heat)

I think all the carting around of children, table, cakes and furniture, coupled with eating a lot of crap has just done my stomach in!

I now have to have it looked at asap and the GP has referred me to someone.  Not looking forward to it!

Weekend Installment 3 – The Sexpo

After surviving the day on Saturday, we went off to the Sexpo on Saturday night after managing to settle everyone at 20h30.  My crazy sister and her current bo came to babysit.  I have to just mention here that if all the kids were not man down, we would not have been able to leave the house.

After coughing up the R150.00 each – what a shocker – we had what I can only call an interesting evening.

As we arrived they had a strip tease competition, boys first, then girls.  The guys were a hoot, clearly they had fun and it looked like most of the guys were dared to do it.  The girls’ was a different story.  I couldn’t watch, I felt very unconformable.  There was something desperate about them.  AND 2 of the contestants were identical twin girls that went topless.  As mom of identical twin girls this was gross.

Pricasso was there of course, and a giant penis.

But, the “color for the hair down there” stand made me laugh!

Click here to go and have a look at their website!  The guys at the stand very graciously let me take the pic when I told them that I would feature it on my blog.

I don’t know how many of you heard DJ Fresh interview the Porn star Mikaila (sp??) last week? She was also there, as well as Miss Nude SA (no kidding) and Miss Pole Dancer Australia.

To be honest, it’s not really my thing, but I was curious.  What was quite cool was that there was a lot of married couples buying toys – and there were some interesting toys!   All in all, a good night out, we needed the distraction after all the stress of the party and the sick children!

Hope everyone has a great week!

Weekend Installment 2 – The Party

The party actually went very well!

We had the face painters and I had packed little boxes of crayons in the party packs and had printed Lion King pictures for the kids to colour in.

My neighbour Adele came over and helped me with the cake on Friday night, and I am very chuffed with it!

Here is Daniel and his mate A with their Lion King party packs.

The house was trashed, but all the kids had loads of fun and I ended up feeding the parents soup.  There were 20 adults and 16 kids all in all.  It rained cats and dogs, but the sun came out halfway through for about 15 minutes and everyone was outside for those few minutes, it was great!

Weekend Installment 1 – The vomit and Poo post (not for the fainthearted!)

Mignon now has Daniel’s cold we ended up taking her to the Physiotherapist on Friday and Saturday morning before the party.  By Saturday morning Isabel was also sick with runny nose, watery eyes and cough.  She and Mignon proceeded to vomit up at least once a meal between themselves this whole weekend as their little bodies just cannot cope with the sheer volume of snot and slime.

After the party on Saturday ALL we wanted to do was get the kids down for their nap and collapse.  Hubby went to drop off the nanny and while he was away I was running between Daniel and Isabel and she then managed to hurl up all over my back when I picked her up and it actually ran down into my pants.  I changed clothes and went to lie down.

Daniel then came into our bedroom and was farting.  As I turned around to say that’s not very nice, I looked into his face and he was looking at his bum like the dog always does when he’s farted with this “deer in the headlights” expression. And he was going around in circles.  And it wasn’t hot air. And there was positively piles of it on the carpet in our room.

I am terrible with poo, I normally do the vomit and hubby does the poo.  I had to leave the room, otherwise it would not have been a pretty sight!

Today pretty much went on the same, so far tonight only Mignon decorated the floor just before bedtime and only 1 wardrobe change.  Isabel is still mumbling, but hopefully it will be fine?
